Sports 4 the Kids, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is committed to providing families in need and financially disadvantaged youth throughout Central Florida with an opportunity to participate in local sports programs.
It is estimated that approximately 10,000 homeless children are living in the Tri-County Central Florida area (Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties) who attend public school. Without programs like ours, students’ athletic potential may never be realized. We strongly believe that participation in sports will help these children develop healthy interpersonal relationships and social skills, improve their self-esteem, introduce them to new friends, enhance their physical well-being, and provide opportunities for them to stay motivated and active despite challenging personal circumstances. It also creates opportunities for these children to receive college scholarships, or in some cases, launch a career as a professional athlete.
The Challenges We Face
Everything costs money, and youth sports can be expensive! League registration fees, equipment, apparel, and gas money all add up. We’ve estimated that the average cost to participate in sports is about $200 per participant per athletic program. Some leagues offer scholarships, but not nearly enough scholarships are offered to help all the homeless and financially disadvantaged children in our community. At the average cost of $200 per child, Sports 4 the Kids would need to raise $360,000 each year to be able to offer every homeless child in Seminole County with an opportunity to participate in an athletic program.
If everyone gives a little, we can make a big difference in the lives of these children. You have a chance to make a difference and provide an opportunity to give a child the chance to play a sport of his or her choosing, no donation is too small.
